What are prosecutors and what role do they play in the criminal justice system? To put it simply, prosecutors are the most powerful single actors in the criminal justice system with the power to make decisions that affect Black communities. They decide if a person will be prosecuted, set bail that can put families in debt, and have the power to stack charges that send people to prison for an unreasonable time for petty crimes. It’s crucial now more than ever that we hold prosecutors accountable
